From Spaghetti Junction (I-85 & I-285) take I-85 North for 16.5 miles to I-985. This is exit 113 on the left side of the highway.

I-985 has a few different numbers so just follow signs for 23 North and 441 North. Stay on this road for 84 miles and turn right onto Route 246 (Dillard Road) at the Chevron gas station. You will know when Route 246 is approaching once you pass a “Piggly Wiggly” grocery store on the right.

Take Route 246 up the mountain for 6.7 miles and turn left on Buck Knob Road (Route 246 becomes Route 106 at the GA/NC border before you reach Buck Knob Road). Buck Knob Road will be the first street on the left just after you pass a cemetery also on the left.

(If you’re coming down the mountain from Highlands on Route 106 (Dillard Road), go 7.6 miles and take a right turn on Buck Knob Road. Buck Knob Road is the first right turn after the guard rail you’ll see just after you pass the BP station on your right.)

Travel .8 of a mile until Buck Knob Road turns to the left. Take a left to stay on Buck Knob Road - do not go straight on Miller Street. The paved road turns into a gravel road that you will take for .6 of a mile. The road curves a little but just stay on Buck Knob until you see two mailboxes on the left (one is numbered 1536) and there will be an RV carport on the right side of the road.

Take a sharp left onto Mountainview’s driveway. You will see a Dutch wooden red shoe nailed to a tree to the right side of the driveway. The driveway is shared with another house so when you come to a fork in the driveway after .2 of a mile, stay to the right. Do not go to the left even though it is paved and has another red shoe nailed to a tree. Mountainview is .2 of a mile past the fork, at the end of the gravel driveway. The driveway from beginning to end is .4 of a mile long.

Plan on your car getting a little dusty from the gravel road and driveway. If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, this may be more suited than a luxury car for mountain driving, though it is certainly not necessary unless you are traveling in the winter where the roads may be icy.
